Matthew scars of Matthew Marks Gallery stated Kelly passed away of normal reasons at his home in Spencertown, ny. Scars stated he had been told associated with the death by Kelly's lover, Jack Shear.
Kelly was born in Newburgh, nyc, in 1923 and served in U.S. military during World War Two. Afterward, he learned art in France for many years in the GI Bill together with his very first solamente tv show at Galerie Arnaud Lefebvre in Paris in 1951.
He returned to New York a long period later.

Kelly had retrospectives at nyc's Guggenheim Museum as well as the bay area Museum of Modern Art, among others over their decades-long job.
